Sara Bouchard

Sara Bouchard is a multidisciplinary artist and composer who uses sound, installation and performance to interweave American histories and the landscape. Born in Stockton, CA, she studied painting and computer music composition at Yale University and received her B.A. in studio art in 2003. She was subsequently based in Brooklyn, NY, for thirteen years and embedded herself in her local community through socially engaged art practices and the revival of American roots music. Bouchard has exhibited internationally, including at The Center for Book Arts (NYC) and in the Berlin Underground (Germany), and has performed extensively in and around New York City, including at the American Folk Art Museum (NYC), Highline Ballroom (NYC) and numerous festivals. In 2009 she co-founded the Americana string band Union Street Preservation Society, collaborating in 2012 on an album with Grammy nominee and NEA National Heritage Fellow Andy Statman. Since 2014, Bouchard headlines the musical project Salt Parade which combines conceptual songwriting with traditional American music. In 2017 she relocated to Richmond, VA to begin studies towards an MFA in Kinetic Imaging from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (expected 2019). She was awarded a 2017/18 Graduate School Assistantship from VCU, and she currently studies with sound artist Stephen Vitiello.
